Scott Zagar

Scott Zagar

Since 1997 I have worked as a software developer, graphic artist, web and sound designer and project manager. I have developed vertical portals, e-commerce solutions, search engine interfaces, database applications and large-scale web publishing systems.

I began working freelance in 2002, following six years of full-time employment with software and entertaiment industry companies based in San Diego and Hollywood. Since then I have worked through the Net for clients around the world as well as former employers, while living on the Northern Coast of California, and presently in Germany.

The low operating costs associated with working independently and the wide array of available independent professionals whose skills complement my own enables me to provide a great value to clients. I enjoy personally providing a full range of Web-related services to clients whose work and passions I respect.

Experience

I have worked for design studios and software companies where I provided e-commerce development (X-Cart, Paypal, Yahoo! Merchant Solution, OsCommerce, Ebay Search bots); open- and closed- source CMS integration and module development (Xoops, PostNuke); graphic and identity design; Flash programming; and more :

Large Scale Publishing Systems - I developed CMS tools, social networking front-ends, custom reporting software and resource archiving software for Fullerene Productions in Los Angeles. These tools - a mix of ASP, JSP and dHTML, are used by Interscope, the world's largest record company, to manage content and user information for more than 250 artist web sites and millions of users from one centralized system.

Search Engine Interfaces - I worked as a software engineer for a San Diego startup named Mohomine, where I developed several custom search interfaces (ASP, PHP, Perl and Flash) to Mohomine's patented data mining platform, the MohoPlatform.

"Web 2.0" APIs - For the photo and video-sharing web community DropShots, I refactored pre-existing backend code into a Flickr-style "open" API that communicates with a JSON-driven front end. The API provides not only greater flexibility and interoperability with other platforms, but also enables DropShots to quickly add more features for their users.

Technologies

I have worked with many languages and platforms, including JSP, ASP, ColdFusion, Perl, PHP, and XML/XSL. I'm currently primarily working with LAMP, Flash, and AJAX.

Education

I have earned B.A. degrees in Music, Art and German, as well as a minor in Business. (Humboldt State University, California) I studied Multimedia Design at Platt College in San Diego and Java programming at the University of California, San Diego.
